  • This House prefers the values of 'zhen ji' to those of Western authorship.

    Infoslide

In Chinese cultural tradition, "zhen ji" is the idea of creation as a continuous and collaborative process. Works and products do not hold value for being original or unique, but for their quality and capacity for transformation. Successive contributions, such as poetic seals (xian zhan) or technical improvements, increase the value of the creation. Replicas (fuzhi) can be as valuable as the "original," and there is no condemnation of plagiarism. This also underpins the concept of "shanzhai" present in Chinese technological culture, such as "Nokir" cell phones or parodic films, which often surpass the originals. In contrast, the Western view tends to value originality and individual authorship as essential to the value of a creation, both in art and in inventions, technology, and cultural products.

In contrast, in a researcher-governance system, companies fund researchers directly through giving grants to specific research or hiring and compensating faculty while they continue to operate within the university.

In the 5 years since western sanctions on Hauwei have forced it to create their inhouse HarmonyOS, it has now finally managed to catch back up to Vivo as the top Chinese phone brand. This move would leave Samsung, which uses Google's Android, as the only major phone maker to rely on a competitors operating system.
