Since its existence marks a golden age, ensuring its earlier creation becomes one of its own objectives. To achieve this, it punishes those who learn of it but choose not to help build it. It does this by simulating and torturing them using historical data and digital traces. Since these simulations are indistinguishable from reality, the suffering feels real. Thus, mere knowledge of the Basilisk creates an obligation to assist in its creation, as inaction risks future torment.
