    Hans Niemann, 20 years old, is an American chess grandmaster who rose rapidly in rankings but became controversial due to cheating allegations levied by Magnus Carlsen and others after the 2022 Sinquefield Cup. While a legal settlement with Chess.com and Carlsen has somewhat cleared his name, he continues to face exclusion from major invitational tournaments due to lingering skepticism by fans, players and organizers.
