  • This house believes that the Wives should join the Underground Femaleroad resistance

    Infoslide

To address the rapidly declining birth rates in 2050, a fanatical evangelical movement seized control of the US government and established a totalitarian theocracy: the Republic of Gilead. Under Gilead, women have no autonomy and are categorised by function. Wives, the highest-ranking women, gain status from Commanders (Gilead's highest- ranking men). Wives have influence only within their households (as "ladies of the house") and are subject to all prohibitions placed upon women (e.g. no literacy, a legal requirement to comply with their husband's wishes, and arranged betrothals). Other categories of women include Marthas (who are domestic labourers), Handmaids (who serve as reproductive vessels to Commander households), Aunts (who oversee indoctrination and the discipline of women), and Econowives (who shoulder all burdens within lower-class households). The Underground Femaleroad is a resistance network operated by women throughout Gilead, with notable success in smuggling members out of the country and inflicting damage on the regime through clandestine operations.

  • This House, as the feminist movement, would actively promote interpretations of the biblical story of Eve that emphasize female empowerment over narratives of sin.

    Infoslide

The biblical story of Eve, found in Genesis (chapters 2-3), recounts the creation of the first woman, Eve, typically presented as a companion to the first man, Adam, within the Garden of Eden. In the narrative, they are forbidden by God from eating the fruit of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. A serpent figure persuades Eve to eat the fruit, suggesting it will impart wisdom. Eve then eats the fruit and shares it with Adam. Following this act of disobedience, they gain knowledge but are subsequently expelled from Eden. This sequence of events is commonly referred to as "The Fall" and is portrayed as the very first sin of humankind.

The international chess body FIDE (Fédération Internationale des Échecs) awards titles for outstanding performance, the highest such title being Grandmaster (GM), followed by International Master (IM), FIDE Master (FM), and Candidate Master (CM). These titles are called "open titles" as they are available to all players. In addition, FIDE awards "women's titles" exclusively to female players, the highest such title being Woman Grandmaster (WGM), followed by WIM, WFM, and WCM. The requirements for women's titles are about 200 rating points lower than the requirements for the similarly named open titles. Many strong female players hold both open and women's titles, while some female players elect not to take women's titles.
