He seeks to liberate them from Piltover, willing to resort to brutal and unethical methods to achieve that goal. Recently, Silco's adoptive daughter, Jinx, committed a terrorist attack against Piltover escalating tensions between the nations. The Piltover Council is willing to give Zaun blanket amnesty, access to trade routes, and freedom, essentially securing its independence. In exchange for this, Silco has to surrender Jinx to Piltover.

Zainichi Koreans are ethnic Koreans who reside in Japan, many of whom are descendants of individuals who migrated or were forcibly brought to Japan during its colonial rule over Korea from 1910 to 1945. Most Zainichi Koreans today were born and raised in Japan and speak only Japanese, but they are not eligible for automatic citizenship and can only naturalise if they renounce their Korean identity. Instead, they remain under a special permanent resident status, which allows them to live and work in Japan indefinitely but prohibits them from running for political office, taking on jobs in the civil service, or voting in national elections. Some Zainichi Koreans have chosen to retain their Korean identity and connections to their heritage rather than take up full Japanese citizenship. This includes attending independent Korean schools (Chōsen gakkō), lobbying for repatriation programmes, or advocating for stronger ties with (either) Korea.

After hundreds of years of french-english disputes, irrecognition of Quebecois culture and people in Canada, there was an overwhelming will of the Quebecois people to establish independence. In 1980, Quebec held an official referendum (an official citizen vote) on whether or not to secede from Canada. Secession is the act of removing oneself from the past state, in this case Canada, to establish a new, independent, sovereign, nation-state. The results of this referendum was 59.56% for staying as part of Canada and 40.44% for seceding. Post referendum, the Canadian government has given the Quebecois provincial government slight devolutions of power (ie. ability to set their own taxes, separate provincial social services and the recognition of French as an official language) however the people still feel alienated from the rest of Canada.

The Northern Ireland Assembly (“Stormont”) is the devolved legislature of Northern Ireland, established in 1998. It has the power to legislate on a wide range of domestic areas, including housing, employment, education, health, and agriculture. It does not have the power to legislate on national issues such as trade deals, security, and defence; these remain the jurisdiction of the national legislature in Westminster. Stormont operates under a mandatory power-sharing agreement between unionists and nationalists. This arrangement is very fragile. As a result of severe disagreements between both groups, Stormont has been suspended for over 40% of its existence. When Stormont is suspended, Westminster governs Northern Ireland directly.
