    Under the U.S.-Japan Security Alliance, Japanese governments have allowed US bases on Okinawa in exchange for a US commitment to defend Japan from external attacks. 75% of US military forces are stationed in Okinawa, despite Okinawa only constituting to 0.6% of Japan's total landmass. Throughout the history of the presence of US military presence in Okinawa, multiple mass protests have taken place. Yet, new military bases continued to be built.

    In response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) initially banned Russian and Belarusian athletes from international competition in 2022. In December 2023, the IOC announced that athletes from Russia and Belarus will be allowed to compete in the 2026 Winter Olympics under a neutral flag (e.g., not the flag of Russia). Eligibility is limited to those without ties to the military and who have not publicly supported the war.

They are led by Yevgeny Prigozhin and have been instrumental in Russia’s invasion in Ukraine. Wagner, was previously given support by Putin, and specialized operations under the interest of Russia. Recently, Wagner has mounted a mutiny against Putin. The mutiny was eventually stopped by a deal brokered by Lukashenko the President of Belarus, Wagner now resides in the Belarus area.
