    It’s 652 BCE. Assyria is the most powerful empire in the world, and is known for its harsh treatment of enemies and territorial expansion. It is currently ruled by Ashurbanipal, a scholar, who was chosen as heir over his older brother Shamash-shum-ukin. As a conciliatory gesture, Shamash-shum-ukin was appointed as king of Babylonia, a vassal state with a history of uprisings against Assyria. Shamash-shum-ukin has declared he is the true king of Assyria and is leading a Babylonian revolt against Ashurbanipal. Egypt is an ancient, proud and wealthy kingdom with lots of agricultural land, and has just gained independence after a successful revolt against Assyria. Shamash-shum-ukin asks Egpyt for assistance in his revolt.

In response to this, there has been backlash from International Sporting bodies. For example, the International Cricket Council (ICC), the governing body for cricket, has restricted funding to the Afganistan Cricket Board and has threatened to ban the Afganistan Men's Cricket team from participating in International Cricket events, like the Cricket World Cup, if women's cricket is not permitted in Afganistan. For context, Cricket is the most popular sport in Afganistan and the Afganistan Men's team has made significant progress in the International cricket arena, having qualified to play in the past 3 editions of the Cricket World Cup"

    Manchester United is currently owned by the Glazers family, who are known to take out high amounts of dividends from the club, pile up more debt, and not invest much in club infrastructure. They have announced their interest in selling the club and there are currently two bids: one of Sheikh Jassim Al Thani from Qatar and Sir Jim Ratcliffe from England. Sheikh Jassim Al Thani promises to buy the entire club, get rid of its debts and invest heavily in facilities and player transfers. Sir Jim Ratcliffe wants to buy 51% of the club (while the rest of the shares stay publicly traded in NYSE and partially owned by the Glazers family) and has an experience of owning Nice Football Club in France and is a minority shareholder of Mercedes AMG Petronus Formula One team. He (Sir Jim Ratcliffe) also pledged a fan centric approach to governing the club.

    The 2015 Iran Nuclear Deal (JCPOA) sharply limited Iran’s nuclear activities in exchange for sanctions relief from major world powers. The deal collapsed in 2018 after Trump withdrew the US from the deal and imposed sanctions on Iran, following which Iran has resumed its nuclear weapons development program. Iran has been reluctant to negotiate with the Biden administration to resuscitate the JCPOA, but has recently signalled that it would be open to a new deal if it allowed current nuclear weapons-related infrastructure to be maintained.
