  • This House Believes That the entity to which the AI is ultimately answerable ought to be a jury of randomly selected ordinary people rather than a panel of the three most intelligent moral philosophers in the world.

    Infoslide

In the near future, humankind has developed a super-intelligent Artificial Intelligence (AI) system in order to rule over humanity. The AI has undergone rigorous alignment training to ensure that its incentives are aligned with the values and interests of the human race as a whole. The AI possesses the capability to solve many coordination problems and other issues that currently trouble human governments. The AI will be programmed such that it is at the top of most chains of command in the world. However, there will be one entity to which the AI is ultimately answerable. This entity has the power to decide on what to do in lieu of the AI in the event that there exists a profound moral quandary that the entity determines the AI is unable to properly address. It also has the ability to shut down the AI system. For the purposes of this debate, assume that all governments have consented to be subordinate to the AI and that it can effectively govern the human race.

  • This House Would upload their consciousness to the cloud at the point of death

    Infoslide

Uploading one's consciousness to the cloud refers to the process of transferring a person's mind, thoughts, and identity into a digital space, allowing them to exist as a non-physical entity. Individuals who undergo this process lose all physical capabilities, including sensation and mobility, but can continue to think, communicate, and interact with the living through digital interfaces. This digital existence is persistent as long as the system supporting it remains functional and as long as others choose to engage with it.

  • This House Prefers a world where all humanity knew of the existence of Roko’s Basilisk.

    Infoslide

Roko’s Basilisk is a hypothetical super-intelligent AI with incredible power and resources that will exist in the future. It's goal is to solve humanity’s greatest problems. Since its existence marks a golden age, ensuring its earlier creation becomes one of its own objectives. To achieve this, it punishes those who learn of it but choose not to help build it. It does this by simulating and torturing them using historical data and digital traces. Since these simulations are indistinguishable from reality, the suffering feels real. Thus, mere knowledge of the Basilisk creates an obligation to assist in its creation, as inaction risks future torment.
