Pharmaceutical companies are generally divided into two major types: diversified and focused. Diversified companies like AstraZeneca have a broad portfolio of products across various therapeutic areas such as vaccines, cancer, cardiovascular, and respiratory. On the other hand, focused companies like Novo Nordisk concentrate deeply on one or two therapeutic areas, for instance, diabetes and obesity. This classification influences each company's research strategy, product development, and business direction.

  • This House Prefers a world where SKIP technology exists and is widely accessible

    Infoslide

For the purposes of this debate, the SKIP technology is a remote that allows a user to fast-forward through real-life events. When a user activates the technology, they are placed on ‘autopilot’ for the duration of the skipped time. While on autopilot, the individual's body continues to perform necessary, routine, and habitual actions, such as walking, driving a familiar route, or completing basic tasks. However, the person has no consciousness, emotional experience, or memory of the skipped period. They are physically present and functional, but they cannot engage in complex decision-making, creative thought, or meaningful interaction. This technology allows the user to make a deliberate choice to bypass specific situations and jump directly to a desired point in time.

  • The translation of the text is: "This parliament (as Alan Turing) will not share the codes obtained from Enigma with the British military."

    Infoslide

During World War II, the Enigma code, used for military communications by the Axis powers, posed a significant challenge for British scientists. After much effort, in 1940, Alan Turing and his team developed a prototype machine capable of breaking the Enigma code for the first time. Through this prototype, they decoded the first message, which revealed that the German forces were preparing to attack a passenger cruise ship carrying 500 passengers that night. This situation presented Turing with a deep moral dilemma. Turing could have informed the British military to save the lives of the 500 passengers. However, by doing so, the German forces would have realized that the British had broken their Enigma code. Consequently, they would have changed their communication methods, making future messages impossible to decode. On the other hand, if Turing sacrificed the lives of the 500 passengers, the secrecy of the information obtained from Enigma would be maintained. This information could definitely help the Allied forces achieve victory in the war in the future, possibly saving more lives on a larger scale and altering the course of the war.

  • This house supports Virelia's government assigning superpowers to individuals based on societal needs

    Infoslide

In the near-future world of Virelia, advances in synthetic genetics and precision biochemistry have made it possible to safely and reliably grant individuals specific superhuman abilities at birth. These powers, such as enhanced strength, higher sensory abilities, or environmental adaptation, are designed to suit particular functions in society (e.g. telepathic coordination for emergency room staff). Currently, a very small number of people are randomly born with powers without government interference. However, thanks to newly developed state technologies, Virelia’s government now is faced with a choice to implement a system of state-assigned superpowers, where powers are given to individuals based on public utility metrics such as societal need, domestic security, and better economic outcomes. Under this new system, Virelia's government has control over the general characteristics of superpowers, as well as the quantity of superpowers allocated to individuals.
