    The Cobre Panama project is one of the most important copper mines in the world. It is projected to significantly improve Panama's economy, but there have been recent concerns around the Cobre Panama and the impact it willhave on Panama's rainforests, freshwater, and other aspects of the environment. The Panama legislature passed a bill to ban all future mining licenses, concessions and extensions on current licenses. After several legal disputes, thePanama Supreme Court declared that the contract for the Cobre Panama wasunconstitutional. This has led to the closure of the mine and the loss of allassociated jobs.&nbsp;<br></p>

Subsequently, Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu made an official visit to China where both countries signed several new developmental agreements including ones on climate, agriculture and infrastructure and tourism. Further, Maldives has also ordered India to withdraw its troops from Maldives by March 2024.
