    Lana Del Rey is an American singer-songwriter who the feminist movement has heavily criticized for her ‘anti-feminist’ lyricism that seems to ‘glamorize abuse.’ On the other hand, she has advocated her discography by citing the importance of ‘being authentic’ to herself rather than indulging in a traditional trope of ‘putting on a happy face’ that womxn are expected to. Lana’s lyricism references (and doesn’t actively condemn) her violent/abusive relationships, submissiveness with her partner, relying on sugar daddies, cheating on her partner, significant age-difference relationship, co-dependency on a physically abusive partner, etc. Lana maintains that she’s ‘not not a feminist.’
