    On 17 September 2021 the West Papua National Liberation Army (TPNPB) claimed responsibility for the burning of public buildings including a clinic, bank office, school building and market and an attack by 50 people on six medical workers in a village in Kiwirok City, Bintang Mountains Regency. Four medical workers jumped into a ravine to hide from the attackers and one of them was found dead. The joint rescue team identified a nurse who suffered stab wounds to the back as well as a doctor who broke his arm after being hit with an iron rod by the assailants. According to witness reports, one of the nurses, Gabriella Meilani, was sexually assaulted and murdered before being thrown off a cliff. 'Mitigation factors' include facts or circumstances that reduce the severity or guilt of a crime.
