It views structural inequality as a form of sin. The late Pope Francis was an avid proponent of liberation theology, in particular through his critiques of capitalism, support of refugees and migrants, and outreach to social movements worldwide. In contrast, traditional Catholic orthodoxy refers to the mainstream, long- established interpretation of Catholic doctrine and theology. It emphasises individual spiritual salvation from sin, obedience to Church hierarchy, and moral conduct over interactions with worldly affairs.
