  • This house would introduce VatiCoin

    Infoslide

For the purposes of this debate, the following core tenets of the religion Catholicism are presumed to be true - there is an afterlife, including heaven, purgatory and hell, an omnipotent God exists, Jesus is the Son of God, and the concept of sin and forgiveness of sins exists. Virtuous acts are those rooted in love and fear of God, whilst sin is rooted in cruelty and selfishness. There are competing ideas within the church as to what constitutes a sin and what constitutes a virtuous act. Incontrovertible evidence exists which proves that these, and only these, tenets of Catholicism are true. This evidence is widely accessible. The Catholic Church has recently developed its own cryptocurrency, called VatiCoin. VatiCoin are tradable digital tokens which can be bought and sold on the open market. When owned, VatiCoins forgive the sins of those who own them. Individuals which own more VatiCoins have more of their sins forgiven, in proportion to the amount of VatiCoins they possess. The amount of VatiCoins required to forgive each individual sin is proportional to the size of the sin. There are a limited number of VatiCoins in existence. There are no similar currencies which exist or can be manufactured with similar properties. The Church has power to control the exchange of VatiCoin to some degree, to prevent hoarding or other undesirable outcomes. Upon the death of the holder, VatiCoin returns to open exchange and it cannot be stolen. Buying and selling VatiCoin is neither a virtuous act nor a sin.

  • Assuming the Good Place exists, This House would prefer a world where people on Earth were aware of its existence.

    Infoslide

The Good Place is a heaven-like world for the best people in society to go to after they die. These people can have or do anything their wildest imagination desires. To get in, you need to have a very large 'score'. Every action you take on Earth will earn or lose you points based on how good that action is for others and for the world as a whole. For example, carefully stepping over a flower bed will earn you 2.09 points and being rude to a waiter would lose you 6.83 points. On a larger scale, ending slavery would earn you 814,292.09 points, and committing genocide would lose you 433,115.25 points. For those who don't get in - that is, around 99% of the population - go to the "Bad Place". In the Bad Place, people are punished and remain miserable for eternity. Assume, for the purposes of this debate, the reasons for people's actions are irrelevant. No matter why they do an action, they will get the points for that action.

  • This house, as Tenzin Gyatso, will choose not to reincarnate into the 15th Dalai Lama.

    Infoslide

"Tenzin Gyatso, the 14th Dalai Lama, ruled as a king in Tibet before being exiled by China when they took over and currently resides in India as a refugee. He is an important advocate for more Tibetan autonomy from Chinese rule, and is a symbol of unity amongst different schools in Tibetan Buddhism. Dalai Lamas are believed to be the reincarnation of the Bodhisattva of Compassion. The reincarnations of spiritual leaders can be located through posthumous instructions of the dead leader and certain religious ceremonies. China had installed spiritual leaders not recognised as official reincarnations and stated that they will elect their Dalai Lama upon Tenzin's death. For the purposes of this debate, reincarnation is real. "
