  • This house supports geoengineering

    Infoslide

Geoengineering is the deliberate large-scale manipulation of an environmental process that affects the earth's climate, in an attempt to counteract the effects of global warming. Carbon capture and proposals to block part of the sun's light in order to reduce the amount of heat that makes it to the surface of the earth are examples of geoengineering.

  • This house would stop going green.

    Infoslide

An intriguing hypothesis proposes that the stability of our world hinges on a delicate balance between two fundamental forces: the strong force governing atomic nuclei and a yet-to-be-measured "magic field." Current space physics suggests this balance, with a speculated ratio of 1:1, prevents our universe from collapsing. A recent NASA paper posits that exceeding this ratio, even by 1%, could trigger cataclysmic consequences. Notably, some argue that even ambitious green efforts may ultimately fail to avert this potential tipping point. While the precise nature and implications of this hypothesis remain open to scientific inquiry, it highlights the profound importance of understanding and maintaining the delicate equilibrium of our universe.

  • This house supports the EU's implementation of the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism

    Infoslide

The Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) is a carbon tariff on products that are imported by the European Union. CBAM calculates the amount of carbon emitted in the production of each good, imposing a proportional tariff on those goods that exceed a predetermined threshold. If importers can prove that a carbon price has already been paid locally in the production of the imported goods, the corresponding amount can be deducted from the tariff.

    Infoslide

In August, 2023, Ecuadoreans voted to ban oil drilling in part of the Amazon rainforest, giving the state oil firm 'PetroEcuador' a year to shut down operations. The referendum was the first time in history that a country’s citizens voted to halt oil production. It could cost Ecuador, whose main export is crude, some $14bn in lost income over the next two decades. Luis is a 23 year old male working at PetroEcuador's amazon wing. His father's recent demise has made him the sole breadwinner of his family. A shutdown of PetroEcuador in amazon, would most definitely mean Luis will lose his job.

  • This house opposes 100% zero-emission vehicle policies

    Infoslide

Recently, many developed countries have announced laws to ban the sales of internal combustion engine vehicles (ICEVs) and hybrid vehicles (HVs) and make 100% of the cars zero-emission (i.e. electric) by 2035-2040. Consequently, most car companies, including Tesla, Ford, and Toyota, have announced to invest significantly on electric vehicles (EVs) at the expense of stopping development of other vehicles. Investing in EVs require massive change in supply chain and employment, as the components for electric vehicles are significantly different from ICEVs.

  • This House prefers reactive to proactive EMS enforcement

    Infoslide

Environmental managements systems (EMS) are the laws and regulations which govern land use, water use, and pollution. Proactive EMS enforcement requires people and companies to apply for permission before acting (ie, you need to apply for approval to build a house). Reactive EMS enforcement allows people or companies to act immediately, and then severely punishes those who breach the laws or regulations (ie, you incur a large fine if your house is too tall, or if it has not been checked by a certified engineer).
