It is projected to significantly improve Panama's economy, but there have been recent concerns around the Cobre Panama and the impact it willhave on Panama's rainforests, freshwater, and other aspects of the environment. The Panama legislature passed a bill to ban all future mining licenses, concessions and extensions on current licenses. After several legal disputes, thePanama Supreme Court declared that the contract for the Cobre Panama wasunconstitutional. CBAM calculates the amount of carbon emitted in the production of each good, imposing a proportional tariff on those goods that exceed a predetermined threshold. It could cost Ecuador, whose main export is crude, some $14bn in lost income over the next two decades. Luis is a 23 year old male working at PetroEcuador's amazon wing. His father's recent demise has made him the sole breadwinner of his family. A shutdown of PetroEcuador in amazon, would most definitely mean Luis will lose his job.
