  • This house prefers the Revelation Model over the Closed-Canon Model.

    The Closed-Canon Model sees religious doctrine as fixed, based on a closed canon of scripture, and any developments are through interpretation rather than new revelations. For example, the Roman Catholic Church considers the Bible and teachings of the early Church Fathers as complete, and that public revelation ended with the death of the last apostle. The Revelation Model allows new beliefs to be introduced through revelations received by living prophets and apostles. Doctrine can evolve over time, and new scriptures can be added to the canon. For instance, the process by which the Mormon Church accepts new beliefs involves revelation to the modern day prophets and apostles, council decision as to whether to present the revelation, communication of the revelation to the Church, member acceptance through sustaining votes, and subsequent implementation.

    Narenda Modi has been elected as the Prime Minister of India for a third consecutive term; however, his victory was not as he anticipated. Modi expected to win with an absolute majority, but, in reality, he won with 60 fewer seats than in the previous election period. Faced with this disappointment, he has two possible ways to govern this term. 1) The first approach is known as the “Development Man”. This includes, but is not limited to, focusing his campaign on economic growth, moderating his xenophobic rhetoric, yielding to the opposition on certain measures, etc. 2) The second approach is known as the “Emperor of Hindu Hearts”. This includes, but is not limited to, imposing a national identity based on the majority religion, increasing Hindu chauvinism, increasing fiscal expenditure, etc.

    The Other Gods are entities that live in the void, but can interact with the mortal realm through proxies. Examples of the “Other Gods” are Cthulhu, Yog- Sothoth, and Azathoth. The only way for the Other Gods to manifest into the physical realm is through a significant amount of blood sacrifices made in their honor. Knowing this, they give humanity two options: A. Be granted limitless power by becoming dreamers (entities with the same reality-warping powers as Doctor Manhattan), but be forced to sacrifice thousands of lives every year. B. Be completely enslaved by the Spawn of Cthulhu and have the earth be used as fuel when The Other Gods manifest into the physical realm in the distant future.

    Excommunication in the Roman Catholic Church is the most severe punishment it can bestow on members of the church. People who are excommunicated are considered exiled from the church and are illegible to receive the Eucharist, which could impact their ability to get into Heaven.
