  • THPAW in which Eastern Orthodoxy had their own central authority under a Pope

    Infoslide

A central authority like the Pope can define doctrine, appoint leaders, settle disputes, and issue binding decisions on worship, morals, and church structure. Eastern Orthodoxy lacks such a figure. Each denomination (often national, but occasionally regional) is self-governing and makes its own decisions on interpreting theology, conducting services, selecting clergy, managing internal affairs, and engaging with political or ethical questions. Inter-Orthodox meetings are rare, even within the same denomination, and national and pan-Orthodox councils occur only every few years. Their decisions are non-binding unless all leaders unanimously agree.

  • That, as the EBU, we would expel Israel from Eurovision

    Infoslide

The Eurovision Song Contest is an international music competition organised by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), a coalition of public service broadcasters from across Europe and neighbouring regions. Participation in Eurovision is open to active EBU members, and the EBU has full discretion over which broadcasters are eligible to compete. In 2022, following public and institutional pressure, the EBU banned Russia from participating due to its invasion of Ukraine and later suspended Russian broadcasters from its membership. In recent years, several national broadcasters, including those from Ireland, Iceland, and Spain, have publicly questioned Israel’s continued participation in light of its military operations in Gaza, urging the EBU to take similar action.

  • This house, as the DEM, would accept guaranteed constitutional protection of minority rights for Kurds in Turkey in exchange for voting to change presidential term limits

    Infoslide

Turkey’s ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) is led by current president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and has declared intentions for Erdoğan to run for a fourth term, despite constitutional term limits. A constitutional amendment requires 360 out of 600 seats in parliament, of which AKP and its allies currently have 321. Erdoğan recently jailed İmamoğlu, the nominee for president from Republican People’s Party (CHP), the second largest political party (146/600), which has been met with popular protest. The Peoples’ Equality and Democracy Party (DEM) is Turkey’s third-largest political party and has been historically pro-Kurdish. Kurds have experienced high levels of political oppression in Turkey, such as political bans against Kurdish parties and the denial of basic human rights to citizens of Kurdish origin. In the 2023 election, DEM endorsed the CHP's presidential candidate. The DEM is the only party that might ally with AKP and has the requisite number of seats (57/600) in parliament to enable changes.
