  • This House believes that in rhythmic gymnastics, figure skating, and synchronized swimming, judges should primarily score on the basis of technicality over the basis of artistry.

    Infoslide

In the 2022 Beijing Olympics, Anna Shcherbakova won the gold medal in figure skating over Alexandra Trusova due to a higher PCS (Program Component Score), despite a lower TES (Technical Element Score) than Alexandra Trusova. A PCS values artistry, performance, composition, and interpretation, while a TES values technical difficulty and execution quality. Alexandra Trusova is known as "the Quad Queen," and became the first woman to land five quads in a single Olympic Program in the Beijing Olympics. A "quad" in figure skating is a jump where a skater completes four full rotations in the air before landing. These jumps are extremely difficult, requiring immense speed and spin to achieve the necessary height and rotation within the few tenths of a second they are in the air.

  • This House Opposes the rise of Universes Beyond inside of Magic: the Gathering

    Infoslide

"Magic: the Gathering is a popular competitive trading card game created in 1993, with around 50 million players worldwide. Players build decks of cards to compete against one another in a variety of different formats. Some formats rotate, only allowing the use of cards from the last few years. New cards are released as part of themed sets that are usually self-contained stories in their own worlds, with new sets of ~300 cards being released 4-5 times a year. The theming of Magic: the Gathering is reminiscent of classic high fantasy media such as Dungeons & Dragons or Lord of the Rings, with the players representing powerful wizards who can travel across the different worlds sets are contained on. Sets rarely deviated from this theme, with those taking place in cyberpunk or steampunk settings being few and far between. Universes Beyond was announced in 2024 as a way to bring new players into Magic: the Gathering by having 1-2 sets per year based on third-party IPs. So far, full sets based on Final Fantasy, Spiderman, and Avatar: the Last Airbender have been announced, with cards from these sets being fully legal in all formats of play."

  • This House Believes that Makima is justified in using Chainsaw Man’s power to erase humanity’s greatest sources of suffering.

    Infoslide

In Chainsaw Man, Denji becomes the host of the Chainsaw Devil, Pochita. As Chainsaw Man, he not only gains enhanced combat abilities and regeneration but also possesses a unique ability: when he kills and devours a devil, the concept that devil represents is erased from existence and memory. For instance, if Chainsaw Man consumes the “War Devil,” the concept of war would vanish from human history entirely. This power makes him feared by both humans and devils, as it allows him to permanently reshape reality. Makima, the Control Devil, seeks to use Chainsaw Man’s ability to erase concepts of suffering and fear — such as war, hunger, and oppression— thereby creating a world free of violence, inequality, and pain. However, achieving this vision requires ruthless methods: manipulating, sacrificing, and killing others to achieve a utilitarian “greater good".
