In October 2024 the Vatican is set to renew for another 2 years its agreement with the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) with the intention of recognizing the Catholic Church in China. Most of the terms of the agreement are secret, but it is known that it requires Bishops be approved by both the Vatican and the CCP. The US government has pressured the Vatican not to renew the agreement, citing China's religious persecution of Catholics and other minorities.

The guilt for these sins is also considered hereditary. Original Blessing is the doctrine that instead claims that human nature is not inherently tainted. It holds that it is unjust to punish one person for the sins of another, and that all infants are therefore born blameless. Each bank has an individual Sharia board which approves decisions made by the corporate arm of the bank. The individual Sharia boards may reach out to Islamic scholars to issue fatwas on the religious compliance of their activities. The centralised model (e.g. that used by Malaysia), involves a centralised board that manages the compliance of Islamic Banks with Islamic law.
