  • This house would trade the blue sky for a green Earth

    Infoslide

To “trade the blue sky for a green Earth” is to establish a neutral global eco-authoritarian regime with the goal of significantly reducing and reversing environmental damage. Such actions may include periodic lockdowns (similar to COVID-19), stratospheric atmosphere injections to block out a portion of the sun’s light (thereby dimming the sky), and other geoengineering or bioengineering methods to maintain ecological balance. These measures can be implemented without the consent of individuals or nations, are neutral across all countries, cultures and ethnicities, and may compromise all rights except the right to life

  • This house, as Moses, would accept the dream as a divine calling and abandon his princely life in Egypt.

    Infoslide

Ancient Egypt was one of the most powerful civilizations in the world, where Israelites (a growing minority population) were seen as an internal threat and subjected to enslavement, used as labourers to build Egypt’s monumental cities and temples. The Pharaoh, fearing their increasing numbers, ordered the death of all newborn Hebrew boys. To save her son, Moses’ mother placed him in a basket along the Nile. As fate would have it, he was found, adopted and raised by the Pharaoh’s daughter, the princess who was also sympathetic to the plight of the Israelis. Raised as an Egyptian prince, Moses grew up with unparalelled access to education, power, and privilege, indistinguishable from the ruling elite. Moses' own mother was his wetnurse, and he grew up in knowledge of his Hebrew heritage. Moses then experiences a dream (commonly considered to be divine calling) which calls upon him to save the Israelites. Moses then would have to abandon his princely life in Egypt for an Exodus leading the Israelites in a journey through the desert with limited resources, instability and uncertainty - in search of the Promised Land.

  • This house believes that the Bundestag should call for the ban of the AfD

    Infoslide

Germany’s constitution, which is designed to prevent a repeat of Nazi rule, allows for bans on political parties that attempt to use democratic means to subvert democracy. Any party that seeks to undermine the “free democratic basic order” can therefore be banned. Alternative for Germany or AfD is a far-right, right-wing populist, and national-conservative political party in Germany. The AfD is Eurosceptic and pro-Russian, and opposes immigration into Germany, especially Muslim immigration. The AfD first won seats in the Bundestag in 2017 and has grown increasingly radical in the years since. Elements of the party have been declared extremist by statelevel domestic intelligence agencies tasked with monitoring anticonstitutional groups. Calls for a ban intensified early last year following a report that AfD officials had taken part in a secret meeting of right-wing extremists who planned the mass deportation of migrants and “unassimilated citizens. Currently, lawmakers are considering a proposal to direct Germany’s top court to examine whether the AfD is an anti-constitutional party, a first step toward legally banning it under German law. AfD has grown in popularity, having doubled its vote share since the 2021 election, and just recently formed the main opposition party in the German Bundestag having won about 152 of the 630 seats, or 21 percent of the vote share.

In India, Rabindranath Tagore condemned colonial exploitation but he did not dwell on its evils as the sole basis for identity formation in postcolonial societies.
