  • This house prefers a world where governments surrendered all decision-making to the Headband of Knowledge

    Infoslide

"The Headband of Knowledge is a machine that estimates the social benefit or harm of any proposed policy for each individual in society. It operates without bias toward a person's identity (e.g. class, race, gender, or social status) and is limited to domestic use, i.e. only one machine may be used per country. The Headband aggregates data and calculates the total pain/happiness generated per citizen per policy option. Each Headband can only be operated by the country’s head of state."

  • This house believes that truth is primarily constructed through language rather than experienced through action

    Infoslide

According to Jacques Derrida, there is nothing outside the text. Meaning is inseperable from language. Words obtain definitions through Différance, the system of contrasts between symbols. Meaning is never absolute but always contextual. For Derrida, truth is not discovered but constructed through linguistic conventions, and when words are placed in new contexts, meanings can be deconstructed and reshaped. In contrast, for Yukio Mishima, truth is found outside the text. It resides in direct, embodied experience—in the immediacy of action rather than the abstraction of language. Acts like practicing martial arts or flying a plane express truth more fully than words ever could. Language, for Mishima, creates a conceptual distance between reality and perception, making it a veil that obscures rather than reveals the essence of things.
