Today, the best of these are officially supported by those companies (e.g: the team behind the fangame Sonic Mania getting hired to release the game through SEGA, Valve partially funding the prize pool for the biggest DotA tournament). Conversely, Nintendo has historically been extremely stringent about the image and use of their IPs, and is usually opposed to any major fan activities, going as far as threatening to take legal action against fans (e.g taking down the fan-game Pokemon Uranium after 9 years of development, shutting down pro competitions for the Super Smash Bros. franchise).</span></span></p>

  • That we support creating a legal exemption from copyright for any sampling used in plunderphonics music.

    Infoslide

Plunderphonics is a vaguely defined musical genre, usually characterised as the “manipulating of other recognizable recordings (AKA samples) to create new songs.” The samples are pirated illegally, can come from any media (usually other songs) and be edited in any way. Theoretically, transformative “fair use” laws protect plunderphonic musicians from getting sued by record companies once they use their music, but record companies have always won any court cases regarding the matter, so the law is considered useless (e.g: Danger Mouse’s famous Grey Album mashed up a Beatles album with a Jay-Z one, and while it was liked by the artists, it was taken down by a copyright claim by EMI, the recording company who owns the Beatles’ music).
