  • This house prefers a progressive epistemic approach over a conservative epistemic approach

    Infoslide

When the reasons for and against believing something or making a change are roughly equal, two opposing approaches exist. The conservative epistemic approach holds that we should keep our current beliefs or practices unless we have strong reasons to change them. In contrast, the progressive epistemic approach argues that we should change our beliefs or practices unless we have strong reasons to keep them the same. For the purpose of clarity, the two approaches are not necessarily tied to their political counterparts.

    Infoslide

In 2021, the Kunsten Museum of Modern Art Aalborg invited artist Jens Haaning to take part in _Work it Out_ , an exhibition about modern working life. The museum commissioned Haaning to recreate two of his works— _An Average Austrian Year Income_ (2007) and _An Average Danish Year Income_ (2010)—fronting him approximately DKK 532,549 (USD 84,000) in cash to display inside the frames. Instead of the agreed-upon reproductions, Haaning delivered the museum two blank canvases titled _Take the Money and Run_ (2021), accompanied by a single-line email explaining that the blank frames should replace the older works. In a subsequent settlement, Haaning returned the museum's money and agreed for the museum to display the blank frames, alongside a printed version of Haaning’s email, as the exhibition's new work.

Oracles are rare: only a few hundred exist at the same time, distributed proportionally to the population around the world.

  • This house prefers a world where the two-kingdoms doctrine was the dominant Christian worldview

    Infoslide

The traditional ontological belief in Christianity is predicated by a hierarchical theory of structure, where authority flowed from the top down, and laws—both moral and civil—were seen as expressions of this divinely ordained structure, with the church playing a central role in interpreting God’s will and enforcing moral order. In contrast, the Two-Kingdoms doctrine holds that there is a separation between the divine and the earthly. In this view, all people and institutions in the earthly realm are equal in nature and authority. Law in the earthly kingdom is judged by human reason and justice rather than divine hierarchy, and no person or institution mediates another’s relationship with God.
