  • This house prefers the direct water management model over the indirect management model

    Infoslide

Water is one of the main natural resources, being limited and irregularly distributed. Of all the water on the planet, only 3% is fresh water and most of it is ice located in the polar ice caps. At present, some of the great world migrations derive from the lack of water (for example, migrations from sub-Saharan countries or migrations from countries in the Indian Ocean to Australia) or there are conflicts over water management (for example, conflicts over the waters of the Euphrates and the Tigris between Turkey Syria or Iraq or the conflict between Sudan Ethiopia and Egypt over the Nile). There are two major models of water management. The direct management model is a public management model in which the public power is in charge of managing water resources and ensuring that water reaches the entire population. For example, Berlin, Paris or Turin have this management model. The indirect management model is a private management model in which private companies are in charge of managing water resources and ensuring that they reach the entire population. Some places where there is a privatized water service are the United Kingdom, Manila or Havana. In both worlds, ownership of water is public.
