  • This house prefers the open qualifier system over the franchising system in eSports.

    Infoslide

Franchising: a set number of teams sign contracts with a tournament organizer, receive royalties from merchandise sales rather than prize money, no eliminations from the league, franchises are divided into set regional cleavages (e.g. 12 North American spots, 8 Asian spots, etc.) Open: tournament organizer hosts open qualifiers in which any team can participate. The strongest teams will continue to guarantee spots in future tournaments via \"breaking\" to playoffs, etc., while teams which have been routinely losing are dropped out of the league for new up-and-coming rosters that inevitably qualify over them in relegation matches. • This house, as UESF, will revoke the ban on Yatoro and Mira

    Infoslide

Team Spirit is an international esports organization founded in 2015. Their Dota 2 squad won The International 2021, the event in which the organisation received the largest single prize money payout in esports history at $18 million. In 2022, as a result of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, The Ukrainian Esports Federation (UESF) reportedly banned Team Spirit’s DOTA 2 players Illya "Yatoro" Mulyarchuk and Myroslav "Mira" Kolpakov for playing alongside Russian players on the same squad. These sanctions banned Yatoro and Mira from competing in any tournaments organized by the UESF and they were not be allowed to travel outside the country when martial law is in place. To circumvent this ban and a possibility of being drafted in the war, the entire team shifted their base of operations to Serbia in 2022. They subsequently won another iteration of The International in 2023, along with 2 other major tournaments (Riyadh Masters and Dreamleague season 21) in the same year.

  • This house prefers the league system to the tournament system in student sports competitions

    Infoslide

In a league system, each team competes against every other team at least once. Standings are determined by the results of these matches. Typically, each team plays the same number of matches, except under specific exceptions. This format is characterized by its round-robin structure, ensuring that all teams have the opportunity to compete against each other. In contrast, a tournament system determines the winner through elimination rounds. Teams face off in matches, and only the winners progress. Teams that lose a match are immediately eliminated from the competition, culminating in a final match to determine the overall winner.
