  • This house would prefer to be born into the community of Captain Fantastic rather than an average American family.

    Infoslide

For the purposes of this debate, there exists the "Captain Fantastic" community: a group of small nomadic families in the United States who choose to live in rejection of the neoliberal system and the state. The group frequently moves through forests, camping and using RVs. They have minimal contact with cities. They have access to certain survival resources (radio, basic medicines, knives) but not to digital technology and sophisticated tools. The children of the community are trained from a very young age to survive under extreme conditions. Additionally, they receive a rigorous education from influential figures in the community, delivered from a socially progressive perspective.

    Infoslide

In 2018, the World Health Organization (WHO) constructed strict recommendations on institutional, national, regional and global governance mechanisms for human genome editing (e.g. the establishment of a database of all ongoing clinical trials involving human genome editing). Currently, experiments on human genome editing do not require WHO approval, and are instead overseen by domestic laws and regulators (e.g. the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA) in the UK).

It suggests a population increase for the Greater Toronto Area from 8.8 to 33.5 million, the Greater Montreal region from 4.4 to 12.2 million, the Calgary-Edmonton Corridor from 2.8 to 15.5 million, the Greater Vancouver region from 3.3 to 11.9 million, the National Capital Region from 1.4 to 4.8 million, the Southwestern Ontario region from 1.2 to 2 million, and the Winnipeg Metropolitan Region from 800,000 to 1.7 million. The organization intends to reach its population goal through a massive increase in immigration and by investing in economic development around megaregions. Century Initiative forecasts predict that, without changes to Canadian immigration policy, the population of Canada will increase to 53 million people by the end of the century."
