    For the purposes of this debate, sinicisation is the process by which non- Chinese minorities within China are assimilated into Chinese culture, often through explicit policy. Examples of this include changing architectural features in mosques, requiring Chinese-language (instead of local language) on business and street signs, asserting Chinese identity and language in schooling, and general state directives to implement Chinese cultural integration within religions.

    Koryo-in (고려인) are Korean diasporas residing in post-Soviet countries, mainly in Central Asia. Koryo-ins moved to the Far East and Primorsky regions during the 1910s to organise resistance against Japanese colonisation, until the Soviet Union forcefully relocated them to other territories in 1937. There are around 500,000 Koryo-ins, most of whom still identify as Korean descendants. The South Korean government helps Koryo-ins abroad to settle in their respective countries of residence by providing foreign aid in education, job training, etc.

    The integrationist constitution-building model focuses on creating a unified national identity. This is done through maintaining uniform policies (those without group-specific variations), promoting a common culture/language, having a majoritarian democracy, etc. It accepts diversity in private spheres but does not believe it should be institutionalised. Conversly, the accomodationist model seeks to protect national diversity. This is done through representative governance, public acceptance of different identities, power-sharing agreements, etc.
