  • This house prefers a world with the Arkangel.

    Infoslide

'Arkangel' is a futuristic technology which involves implanting a device into a child's brain, allowing parents to monitor their child's location and vital signs in real-time. Additionally, parents can use a tablet to see through the child's eyes, censor disturbing or sensitive images and events, and track their emotional state. The technology also enables parents to set boundaries and restrictions on what the child sees and experiences, effectively controlling their environment. Parents can choose to remove the device at any time with no repercussions to the child.

  • This house regrets the increased power of the Barnevernet in Norway

    Infoslide

Barnevernet, Norway’s Child Welfare Services, was formed in the 1950s with the goal of protecting children from abuse and neglect, driven by the belief that the state should intervene when a child's safety and well-being are at risk. Over time, the agency’s powers broadened as concerns grew about hidden or unreported child abuse andi international pressure for more proactive child protection policies increased. By the 1970s and 1980s, Norway expanded Barnevernet’s authority to address not just cases of abuse but also neglect, with the idea that early intervention could prevent long-term harm. Barnevernet’s powers include the ability to intervene in family matters if a child’s well-being is believed to be at risk. If the agency determines that the child is in immediate danger or at risk of harm, it can remove the child from the home, either temporarily or permanently. Once Barnevernet decides to remove a child or take other actions, the family can appeal to a court, and the court will review the case. However, the legal process is often described as opaque and complex, and many parents feel that they are not given enough time or information to fully defend themselves.
