  • This house supports Estonia’s proposal to revoke local voting rights from Citizens of Agressor States

    In Estonia, permanent residents, regardless of their citizenship status, currently have the right to vote in local council elections (_municipal elections_). Estonia is currently planning to amend its constitution to revoke voting rights in local elections for residents who are citizens of “aggressor states”, this impacts approximately 80,000 Russian citizens and 3,000 Belarusian citizens in Estonia. Stateless individuals (a category that includes many ethnic Russians), citizens of EU or NATO member states will not be affected. The government aims to implement this policy before the next local elections, scheduled for October 2025. The total population of ethnic Russians in Estonia is estimated to be around 296 000.

    In response to the invasion of Ukraine, the United States' Rebuilding Economic Prosperity and Opportunity (REPO) Act enables the confiscation of Russian sovereign assets frozen in the US, redirecting these funds to Ukraine. The European Union has frozen approximately €220B in Russian central bank reserves but has not adopted the confiscation approach, citing the sovereign immunity principle which protects states and its assets from being sued or seized without its consent. Instead, the EU has explored alternatives, such as using the interest generated and revenue through targeted taxation mechanisms, to support Ukraine.

    "Blood tax" was a system of taking away male children, usually between the ages of 8 to 10, from conquered Christian lands in the ottoman empire. The ottomans raised the abducted children in the Islamic religion, usually without any knowledge of their origins. In the ottoman empire, boys received military training and when they reached the age of 20, they would be assigned to elite janissary military units. The ottoman army did not accept boys with serious physical defects (eg. A gouged eye, cut hand, etc.). In order to avoid their child being kidnapped, some families intentionally mutilate their children

Between 1955-1973, millions of workers, primarily from Turkey and Yugoslavia, were recruited for low-skilled industrial and service jobs. While intended as temporary labor, many workers permanently settled despite lacking integration support or clear paths to citizenship.

    Germany's debt brake is a constitutional amendment introduced in 2009 that limits the annual federal budget deficit to 0.35% of the country’s gross domestic product (GDP). Federal budgets exceeding this threshold may be invalidated by the German Federal Constitutional Court. The debt brake can only be temporarily suspended through an "escape clause." This clause allows the Bundestag to, by a simple majority vote, override the restriction in cases of extraordinary circumstances or emergencies. The clause has been invoked only once, during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, with its suspension extended through 2023

    The year is 1985, and the USSR is beginning the process of transforming the communist system. In one of the Soviet republics, criminal organizations operate based on the law of the street. According to this law, they can only engage in criminal activities (such as extortion, production and sale of drugs, fencing, and theft), and legal business is prohibited. The law of the street is created and overseen by a council composed of the bosses of these criminal organizations. A boss is the most important person in the underworld of their territory, can settle disputes regarding this law, and holds unquestioned authority.

  • This house prefers confucianism over individualism as the dominant thought system in Western society

    Confucianism is a philosophical doctrine and ethical code. It assumes human beings are fundamentally good, and teachable, improvable, and perfectible through personal and communal endeavor. This can take the form of ancestor worship, submission to parental authority or the use of family metaphors to describe political leaders. The family is the most important group for Confucian ethics, and devotion to family can only strengthen the society surrounding it. There are 5 further central values: reciprocity, loyalty, propriety, humaneness and justice.

  • This house believes that that France should send a military peace-keeping force to Haiti

    Haiti was a French colony from 1697 until 1804 where France profited massively from slave labour on plantations. Following Haiti's independence, France forced Haiti to reimburse France for its lost revenue. This debt was ony fully paid off in 1947. Currently, Haiti suffers from severe violence by criminal gangs which have occupied the entire capital with the exception of a few central neighborhoods. Following various government collapses, Haiti has an interim government which has been unable to deal with the gangs. The gangs' control of roads and attacks on harbors and airports, have led to food shortages.

  • This house believes that Ireland should abolish the special criminal court

    The special criminal court is a court in Ireland that sits with three judges and no jury. Previously, it was used to try crimes involving the IRA, as juries feared the ramifications of finding IRA members guilty. Now, cases involving terrorism and organised crime are automatically brought before a special criminal court for trial. Cases are also brought when the director of public prosecutions certifies that the ordinary courts are inadequate to secure the effective administration of justice.

You have been informed that Irene Adler, an established dominatrix, is involved in an affair with a member of the British monarchy. She has obtained picture evidence, and is threatening to release them unless her nominated conditions are met, which would cause a scandal. You have been directly delegated the task by His Royal Highness to obtain those pictures, at all cost. During the task, you have failed twice to infiltrate the household, due to her excellent stratagem. Upon the final attempt, you managed to succeed, but also realised 1) losing those pictures as leverage will immediately endanger her life and 2) you developed admiration and romantic feelings for this woman, which is something you have never experienced in your life.
