  • In the wake of the economic frustration brought by Covid-19 pandemic, this house believes that the African states should not have discontinued the use of CFA franc.

    The CFA franc encompassed 14 West and Central African nations, including Niger, Cameroon, Mali and Côte d’Ivoire. The currency was pegged at a fixed rate against the euro, and compelled participating African countries to deposit 50% of their foreign exchange reserves with the French treasury. this in turn guaranteed payments into euros even if the CFA member state could not meet import payments. While an important source of financial stability, the CFA franc has long been politically sensitive owing to the power it exerts over countries which have now been independent from France for over half a century, and has recently come to an end as of July 2020.

Cricket is the second-most widely played game in the world after football and is thus used as a political tool to bridge the gap in the diplomatic vacuum. this phenomenon is now termed 'sports diplomacy' now used to refer to any sport that is used as a political tool for similar purposes.

    “Decolonising the mind” written by post-colonial theorist Ngũgĩ wa Thiong'o is an important piece of work in the collective body of post-colonial theory. A major aspect in the theory of decolonising the mind is Ngũgĩ's 'theory of language'. It posits that the language we use to communicate ideas is a primary weapon in perpetuating the ongoing existence and legacy of colonialism and a site of intense neo-colonial conflict. Many post-colonial theorists argue for if not a complete abandonment of the English language at least a conscious and pronounced preference of indigenous languages as a literary or scholarly medium. These theorists view the process of decolonizing language as an integral part of liberation in post-colonial society.

    Francafrique is a phenomenon used to define France's sphere of influence over former French and Belgian colonies in Sub-Saharan Africa. The phenomemon has resulted in significant French influence in the military social political cultural and economic spheres of life in Sub-Saharan Africa. Ever since being elected as President Emmanuel Macron has taken up an explicit public stance of eliminating Francafrique and redefining French-African relationships to reflect mutual respect for sovereignty - writing off of major debts increasing liquidity of African eocnomies and promoting liberalised investments into the region. However Macron's efforts have been largely difficult to implement as France has been engaged in a large scale military effort in the Salem region against jihadist forces increased competition for regional supremacy from China Russia and Turkey multiple instances of political instability in countries like Ivory Coast and Chad and fears over stability of the newly proposed Eco currency that will likely replace the Franc as the common currency in the ECOWAS region.

    Until 2021, a part of French foreign policy was active involvement in previous French protectorates, such as Mali and Burkina Faso. The publicly announced goals of this policy were to help foster political stability inside the affected countries, as well as cooperation between these countries and France. In 2021, France announced the decision to start withdrawing from the region and putting an end to its military operations there.

    A century ago the eminent Bengali writer Rabindranath Tagore returned his knighthood to the viceroy of India. The “time has come when badges of honour make our shame glaring in their incongruous context of humiliation”, Tagore wrote in outrage as scores of peaceful protesters were massacred in Jallianwala Bagh. He would now “stand, shorn of all special distinctions, by the side of my countrymen”. The 1919 atrocities in Amritsar jolted the Nobel laureate into accepting that that his Knight Commander of the British Empire could not be treated as unconnected to the bloodied realities of that empire’s operations. David Olusoga is a British Nigerian popular historian, writer, broadcaster, presenter and film-maker. He is Professor of Public History at the University of Manchester. He was awarded an OBE for his services to history and community integration. Accepting his Order of the British Empire, the public historian David Olusoga, has insisted that while “the empire was an extractive, exploitative, racist and violent institution”, the fact that “there isn’t an empire any more” changes things completely. Olusoga suggests that, by acknowledging the “incredible achievements of black and Asian Britons”, OBEs can be seen as a defeat of racism

  • This house believes that Papuan exploitation should be a mitigating factor in court rulings for punishing the perpetrators from West Papua National Liberation Army

    On September 17th 2021 The West Papua National Liberation Army (WPNLA) has claimed responsibility for the burning of public buildings including a clinic a bank office a school building and a market and an attack by 50 individuals against six medical workers at a village in the town of Kiwirok of Pegunungan Bintang district. Four medical workers jumped into a ravine to hide themselves from the attackers and one of them was found dead. A joint rescue team identified a nurse who suffered stab wounds in the back also a doctor who broke his arm after being hit with an iron stick by the attackers. Based on witness’ reports one of the nurses Gabriella Meilani was sexually assaulted and brutally murdered before being thrown from the cliff. Mitigating factors include any facts or circumstances thet lessens the severity or culpability of crimes.

    Both Afro-futurism and Afro-pessimism refer to approaches in exploring African experiences through different cultural aesthetics. Afro-futurism reimagines the future via a black lens, voiding white supremacist thought and the structures that violently oppressed Black communities. Afro-futurism evaluates the past and future to create better conditions for the present generation of Black people through the use of advanced technology, often presented through art, music, and literature. An example of Afro-futurist literature is Wakanda (Marvel) and Beyonce's Lemonade (2016).Alternatively, Afro-pessimism is a lens of interpretation that accounts for, and focuses on the ongoing effects of racism, colonialism, and historical processes of enslavement including the trans-Atlantic slave trade and their impact on structural conditions as well as the personal, subjective, and lived experience and embodied reality of African Americans.
