The Re:Write will never be questioned by anyone, and there will be no factual gaps or inconsistencies that make people doubt the truth of the Re:Write.

  • This house believes that the Mexican feminist movement should advocate for the creation of antimonuments, as opposed to the creation of 'positive monuments'.

    Infoslide

In Mexico, antimonumentos (anti-monuments) are installed during protests to recall a tragic event or unfulfilled demand for justice. They usually critique national symbols and monuments with socio-political messaging. Examples include La Glorieta de las Mujeres que Luchan (Roundabout of the Women Who Fight), which was installed as a reminder of Mexico's gendered violence as well as the ongoing fight for equal rights, and 49 ABC, which commemorates the 49 children who died in the 2009 Hermosillo daycare center fire. The center was funded by the Mexican federal government.

There are also movements to install 'positive monuments' to celebrate the legacy of minorities as a part of Mexico's national identity. Examples include a proposal to replace the Christopher Columbus statue with a replica of La joven de Amajac (The Young Women of Amajac), a pre-Hispanic sculpture depicting an indigenous woman and El Yanga, an enslaved African man who led a revolution and established a community of freed people.

  • In post-conflict countries, EC prefers to include the myths of "the lost cause" in history curriculums instead of not including them.

    Infoslide

The myths of "the lost cause" are historical narratives that romanticize and simplify the causes of a defeated side in a conflict, delving into individual stories of combatants from the losing side and highlighting stories of honor, courage, and sacrifice. They aim to focus on the individual motivations of the people who participated in the conflict rather than focusing on the political objectives of the losing side. For example, recounting the individual stories of Confederates defending their homes and families, or the stories of the international brigades glorifying the Republican militias in the Spanish Civil War.

Augustus Caesar was the first emperor of Rome. He reigned for over 40 years and was generally regarded as a good emperor. Among his more controversial policies, he promoted several morality reforms designed to encourage people to be faithful to their spouses, have more children, and punish adultery. Augustus's daughter, Julia, was his only child and was married to three of Augustus's heirs before each of them died. She was also a notorious philanderer and had affairs with several prominent Roman men. In 2 BC, one of her affairs, which clearly contravened the new morality laws, was publicly brought to the attention of Augustus. There were also allegations that she was planning to marry one of her lovers.

  • This house believes that countries transitioning to democracy should implement a "Pact of Forgetting"

    Infoslide

The "Pact of Forgetting" (Pacto de Olvido) in Spain is an example of post-autocracy transition. After Franco's death, the left and right parties of Spain agreed not to confront the legacy of the civil war or fascism under Franco. This gave amnesty for crimes during the civil war and under fascism but also did not valorise or memorialise the Francoist regime.
