    In Mexico the production sale and consumption of all drugs are illegal. In spite of this Mexican drug cartels dominate the wholesale illicit drug market controlling around 90% of the cocaine entering the United States. The illicit drug market is the reason for very severe and brutal conflicts between drug cartels and the government. Since 2006 the Mexican government started its official war against drug cartels. So far the war failed in diminishing the influence of drug cartels in any significant manner and resulted in over 120000 deaths (many of them civilians).
