    As a response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the debating community shifted its activities online, with the vast majority of trainings, coaching, and tournaments (including majors such as WUDC, ABP, or EUDC) being held on various online platforms such as Zoom or Discord. With the end of the pandemic, much of debating has begun to revert to offline events (e.g. the past three iterations of WUDC were held in-person), although online debating has not completely died out.

    Recently, there has been a trend of recasting characters of popular franchises. For example, in the series Bridgerton, Regé-Jean Page (a British- Zimbabwean) was casted as the Duke of Hastings, Simon Basset. Similar occurrences have also happened, such as Zendaya (who is half African-American and half European) being casted as Mary Jane in the Spider-man franchise, Jonathan Majors (an African-American) as Kang the Conqueror, Halle Bailey (an African-American) as Ariel the Mermaid. On April 14th, a new Harry Potter series was announced, with Paapa Essiedu (a British-African) entering the franchise as Severus Snape.

Examples of revolutionary paramilitary groups include the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Columbia (FARC) that aimed to establish a socialist state, as well as the Irish Republican Army (IRA) that aspired to end British rule in Northern Ireland.
