  • This house believes that that the SPSE does more harm than good

    For the sake of this debate Somalian Piracy Stock Exchange (SPSE) refers to the informal fiancial system in which Somalian investors can fund pirate operations in exchange for part of the profits earned from ransoms. Similar to many other famous stock exchanges, SPSE lists a diverse selection of companies although all companies are related to illegal pirate operations in Somalia. Moreover, SPSE is accessible (physically but not online) to anyone willing to invest given that one has sufficient capital to do so. However, unlike other stock exchanges, SPSE allows investment via non-monetary means such as equipment like boats and guns. The monetary value of such equipment is negotiated based on supply and demand of the localized market in which the pirates operate in before being converted into 'stocks'.

    Sudan is currently in a state of civil war between two factions - the official military forces of Sudan (SAF) and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF). After a military offensive, the SAF has taken control of Sudan's capital Khartoum away from the RSF. The RSF remains in control of parts of the south of the country and nearly all of the large western region of Darfur. The RSF has unilaterally declared its own rival government.

These events have often followed public dissatisfaction with civilian governments due to economic hardship, the perceived failure to combat Islamist insurgencies, and French military, economic, and political influence. These new juntas have distanced themselves from France and have formed closer connections with Turkey, Russia, and The Wagner Group.

    In 2000, Zimbabwe launched its Fast‑Track Land Reform Programme (FTLRP), under which land owned by white commercial farmers was seized and redistributed to Black Zimbabweans, often without compensation. The policy aimed to address colonial‑era land inequality, in which a small minority held most of the fertile farmland. In response, the United States enacted the Zimbabwe Democracy and Economic Recovery Act (ZDERA) of 2001. Under this law, the Government of Zimbabwe was barred from participating in programmes administered by the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
