India follows a quasi-federal system of governance where the centre and state share powers with the central government often having more powers. Mamata Banerjee (Trinamool Congress), the incumbent Chief Minister of West Bengal, has long been criticised for her politics due to her tendency to appease religious minorities in the historically, culturally, and ethnically diverse border state. Her soon to be 3 term long rule has also been criticised on the grounds of slow economic progress. BJP, the controversial ruling party at the centre made significant headway in the 2021 Bengal Elections, increasing its number of seats from just 3 to 77 in a mere five years. this progress is often credited to the strong never-done-before Hindutva narrative they pushed in the state alongside promises of swift economic development.

  • This house being the European Union would support the reunification of Czechia and Slovakia.

    Infoslide

Czechia and Slovakia are two small countries in central Europe. Both territories were under the great European empires until after the Treaty of Versailles (1918) the creation of Czechoslovakia was agreed. After the Second World War it became a socialist republic until 1993, the year in which they were unilaterally divided due to political disagreements between the Czech and Slovak leaders, but without the support of the population (no referendum was held and the demographic data gave a 35 % of support for the division). Since 2015 there has been a movement in favor of reunification and the calling of a referendum for it with the desire to have a richer State with more geopolitical power. The Czech Republic is a republic with an atheist majority (it is the most atheist country in Europe) with different minorities present on its territory. At an economic level it has a great economic development and the tertiary sector predominates. Slovakia is a republic with a Catholic majority, also with minorities in its territory (such as the Hungarians) and with a developed market economy where the secondary and tertiary sectors predominate. Both are currently members of the European Union.

  • This house believes that Abiy Ahmed should allow Tigray to secede from Ethiopia and form an independent state

    Infoslide

The people of Tigray, the northernmost region of Ethiopia, comprise 6 percent of the country’s 110 million people yet have enjoyed disproportionately large power and influence for nearly three decades. In November, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed of the Prosperity Party ordered a violent military offensive after he accused the regional ruling party, the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF), of attacking a government military base. This follows a long-simmering feud between the federal government and the TPLF, and came at a turbulent time with Ahmed trying to steer the country from ethnic federalism to a unified nation. Ahmed has declared emergency rule in the Tigray region which is occupied by state forces and now facing a humanitarian crisis.
