    The Sibyl System is a nationalized technological system used to calculate an individual’s tendencies to commit crimes. The System’s primary purpose is to maintain law and order. The System scans a person's thoughts and emotions to determine their propensity to commit crimes. This is quantified in the form of a crime coefficient – the higher the coefficient, the more likely the person will commit a crime, and vice versa. Law enforcement is only able to arrest you and trigger weapons when the System reads that the individual's crime coefficient reading is over the threshold limit. Every citizen in the country is compulsorily injected with the system upon birth.

Examples include, tomato soup thrown at Van Gogh’s “Sunflowers” by activists of the Just Stop Oil movement and pumpkin soup being splattered on da Vinci's "Mona Lisa" by activists of the group Riposte Alimentaire. In these two examples, the works of art were not damaged.

    An Eagle is a long-time member of the Southside Serpents gang. His close friend is Falcon, who was previously expelled from the gang. Eagle and Falcon were detained by the police and charged with robbing a cider factory. The police, lacking sufficient evidence to press charges, separate the prisoners and present each of them with the same offer: if one testifies against the other while the other remains silent, the one who testifies will be set free, and the one who remains silent will receive a fifteen-year sentence.
